20 years after its inception, Steel Warriors’ Rebellion is still up and running, delivering their annual dose of heavy metal grime to us, and now their most memorable edition to date seems to be shaping up.

During the 28th, 29th and 30th of April, in the small town of Barroselas (city of Viana do Castelo, Portugal), besides the already confirmed Aborted, fulfilling their promised return in 2017 (after their sudden withdrawal from 2016’s edition), we will have the black/doom enterprise of  The Ruins Of Beverast, Nashgul‘s grindcore, Lich King‘s and Warfect‘s thrash revivalism and our very own Portuguese grindbeasts, Besta.

Even though we try to praise all bands equally, there is no doubt that at least four of them embody the true meaning of this celebratory edition: Goldenpyre, Ricardo and Tiago Veiga’s (the festival’s masterminds) very own death metal entourage returns; Steelharmonics, the Barroselas’ boy scouts playing our favourite heavy metal tunes in the most unconventional way; Avulsed, the death metal warriors that were also the very first headliners in the history of the festival; and (at) last, the almighty Mayhem playing their chef-d’œuvre, «De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas», in its entirety – the perfect way to “redeem” both band and fans from their famous 2001 cancellation episode.

There’s still more than 40 bands to be confirmed and many other surprises on the table so don’t hold back on going for the traditional X-mas packs containing the 3-day ticket, t-shirt, bag, cup and 3 steel tokens that will be put on sale next month for 70€.
