ALL RIGHT, once again an album review that few will read, so let’s keep it short anyway. Doom? You either pull a Winter or you just go pedal to the metal with melody and seductive, yet pitiless, hooks.Khemmis chose the second, a wisely move considering how great these chaps are when architecting bleats of consonance. It’s wicked that “Absolution” gives me the stadium-rock-blues, yet they are an underground Denver band. Ruse guys. Combining vocal harmonies, arena rock guitars and peristaltic dynamic deeds of Southern doom-sludge, a summer reeked of cool heaviness placed on some thoughtful songwriting. Charming debut, gimme more.
